E-mails show that Walensky was strongly influenced by teacher unions, particularly the American Federation of Teachers, in reopening and disguising judgment while she publicly stated she was only doing what science recommended.
Before her testimony, Republicans published a lengthy report further detailing the relationship.
“On Feb. 12, 2021, the CDC put out the Biden White House’s first school reopening guidance. Senior agency officials distributed a draft copy of the reopening document to the AFT. After looking at the draft, AFT staff requested that CDC Director Rochelle Walensky include a “trigger” in the recommendation that would force schools to automatically shut down if COVID-19 positivity rates reached a certain level.”
“The CDC carried out the request, and thousands of schools in the United States remained closed for the 2020-2021 school year. This on July 19, 2021, Director Walensky informed Select Subcommittee Republicans that the CDC’s contact with AFT was ordinary and followed normal procedure for issuing advice.”
“However, because of their investigation, the Republicans have determined that this degree of coordination is not typical. Dr. Henry Walke, a long-time CDC scientist and medical doctor, was interviewed by Republican staff on February 18, 2022. According to Dr. Walke, it’s ‘uncommon’ for the CDC to collaborate with an external group in this way. The CDC does not typically share draft policy outside of the agency for any reason. Even for other government agencies.”
It is clear that Democrats used the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns as a way to further their own political agenda. And we would expect, and put good money on, more evidence coming out in the future that proves this.
What the Democrats fail to understand is that their push to take advantage of this “good crisis” will end up blowing up in their faces when American go to the voting polls and respond to their power-mad tactics. It does not look good for them going into 2024!
