Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the U.S. has given NATO nations a “greenlight” to provide fighter jets to Ukraine if it becomes necessary to aid them in their war against Russia.
Blinken has specifically stated that Poland has permission to provide the planes and that the United States has already been in talks with the Polish government regarding the matter, CBS reported:
“That has gotten the green-light,” Blinken stated during an interview with “Face the Nation” when he was asked whether the Poland could send fighter jets to Ukraine. “In fact, we are discussing this with our Polish allies right now about what we may be able to do to help backfill their needs if in fact they opt to provide these fighter planes to the Ukrainians.”
Additionally, the Ukraine Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova has told “Face the Nation” that she is hoping the polish planes will be sent “as soon as possible.”
“We have been working with our American allies and friends, on the steady supply of all the ammo and anti-air, planes and anti-tank weapons to be able to defend our nation effectively,” Markarova said.
The announcement has had mixed reactions on social media, but former governor of New Jersey and pres. candidate Chris Christie (R) has stated that the decision to send war planes “should have already happened a while ago.”
He has also disagreed with fellow panelist Donna Brazile, who has claimed that Pres. Joe Biden deserves credit for uniting the whole world against Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin.
“I would really disagree with Donna on this one for sure,” Christie stated. “A pres. did unite the world. It was Pres. Zelensky, not Joe Biden. He was extremely clear about what leadership should look like. We should have been giving weapons to the Ukrainians for the past year. We weren’t. We should’ve been doing a lot more on the domestic production of oil. Instead, we are going backwards and giving Putin the card to keep us hostage and with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline we provided him the card to keep Europe hostage.”
During that conversation, Chris Christie also blasted Joe Biden for depending on foreign oil.
“You have to put a ban on Russian oil and boost domestic oil production. That is where Pres. Joe Biden is going to have an issue. He is held hostage by the environmental left,” said Christie.
