On a recent episode of his show “Last Week Tonight,” liberal comedian John Oliver took aim at Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R), who recently passed a bill that restricts endocrinologists from performing gender-transition operations and giving puberty blockers and hormones to minors.
The Alabama Vulnerable Child Protection Act was enacted by Ivey at the close of the 2022 session in the state, and it immediately drew a response from the Biden Admin’s then-media secretary Jen Psaki.
Last week, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction stopping the part of the law that banned hormone therapies and puberty blockers.
That did not prevent Oliver from launching a verbal assault on Ivey and saying that Alabama citizens deserved “a lot better” than Governor Ivey.
“You know what I’m talking about, right? Y’all? I don’t think I could pull it off. You are important. Trying to instill self-esteem in childhood as your own leaders try to undermine your very existence is beyond me. But you should be aware that you are incredibly precious and irreplaceable. As for Governor Ivey, what the hell is wrong with you? Of course, this is a simple question with a very complicated answer; nevertheless, to convey this in terms you’ll undoubtedly comprehend: summer’s hot, the sea is vast, and Alabama citizens deserve much better than you.”
Ivey, who is nearing reelection this year, has double-digit leads in recent polls over the rest of the crowded GOP gubernatorial primary field.
In her comments to Breitbart News, Ivey hit back against Oliver’s “Hollywood-friendly, progressive agenda” and said she did not care whether he was offended.
“I can tell you that Alabama has nothing to do with Mr. Oliver’s liberal agenda,” Ivey stated. “We will keep concentrating on enabling our young people to grow up into the adults God intended them to be, regardless of how John feels about it.”
Of course, liberal comedians will always have a well thought out come back line prepared. Which is why it’s best to ignore them all, as most Americans do.
