If the Republicans win back control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections, House Republicans will issue subpoenas to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other top Democrats.
After the midterms, several “rank-and-file” Republicans are expected to take control of committees and party leadership roles, according to CNN. The January 6 congressional committee subpoenaing House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and other members of the Republican caucus has established a new bar for Republicans that they may choose to follow if they retake control of the House, say Congressional Republicans.
Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania have been subpoenaed in addition to McCarthy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is number one on the list. According to reports, Republicans will aim to examine House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s communications regarding security standards leading up to January 6, 2021, as well as the events that occurred at the Capitol on that day.
“I’m going tell you the truth: Yes, I do,” said Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter when he was asked if he thinks Republicans should issue a subpoena to Pelosi.
Rep. Carter added, “This is establishing precedence; we’re not going to lie down and let this happen. There are significant concerns about her activities on January 6, as well as what she did and didn’t do. And we need to figure out what happened.”
“I would not be shocked if there is a subpoena there,” Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) added.
Pelosi, on the other hand, said that she is “never afraid of precedence.”
“I’m not scared of precedent,” the longtime Democratic representative added. “We’re looking for the facts and we are not going to be cowards about it.”
According to reports, the “bad blood” between Pelosi and McCarthy has been evident since January 6.
Representative Jim Banks, a Republican representative from Indiana who was rejected by Pelosi as one of McCarthy’s hand-picked members to sit on the January 6 committee, believes that the special committee should demand the speaker’s testimony regarding security preparations and failures on January 6.
“Nancy Pelosi is the only individual in the U.S. who has covered anything up regarding January 6,” Banks continued. “That’s who they should subpoena. She should be at the top of the list.”
